Scientific Sessions Program

Dear Colleagues:

It is my pleasure to invite you to attend Scientific Sessions 2013 in Dallas, TX.  The American Heart Association’s annual meeting offers a unique opportunity to gather and network with colleagues from around the world in an exciting educational and professional environment.  The scope and quality of the scientific exchange make Scientific Sessions the premier cardiovascular research and instructional meeting in the world.

Programming this year will continue to center on seven multidisciplinary cardiovascular cores:
  • Cardiovascular Imaging
  • Epidemiology and Prevention of CV Disease: Physiology, Pharmacology and Lifestyle
  • Genetics, Genomics and Congenital CV Disorders
  • Heart Rhythm Disorders and Resuscitation Science
  • Myocardium: Function and Failure
  • Catheter-Based and Surgical Interventions
  • Vascular Disease: Biology and Clinical Science
Each core continues to include the four broad areas of basic, translational, clinical and population science.  Moreover, programs of special interest -- the tracks -- will often span several of the cores and following a track will allow attendees to focus on a theme. This year, our tracks include:
  • Acute Coronary Syndromes
  • Basic Science (and 4 substrands)
  • Cardiovascular Nursing
  • Diabetes
  • Early Career
  • Electrophysiology
  • General Cardiology
  • Congenital Heart Disease and Child Health
  • Heart Failure (new this year)
  • Imaging
  • International Congress on Physical Activity
  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease
  • Quality of Care
  • Resuscitation
  • Surgery
This year, our International Congress on Physical Activity will run concurrently with Scientific Sessions and will offer a global perspective on physical activity and its importance to population cardiovascular health and cardiac disease risk reduction.

We will continue with the very well-received “Case Theaters: Learning at the Movies”, which offer 30-minute live presentations of recorded cases, accompanied by panel discussion. Other highlights include Professor Rounds of posters, a poster reception highlighting some of the best basic science research, as well as many more.

Scientific Sessions continues to evolve and improve with the input from our attendees making an already great meeting even more spectacular. We thank you for your input in the past and we hope you have the opportunity to experience the enhancements to our meeting.   Most importantly, we hope the meeting addresses the greater mission of the American Heart Association, to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.
