Comments from the Program Co-Chairs:
Micro RNAs are recently discovered nucleic acid molecules that control gene expression of critical cellular function. In this study Nossent et al. discovered that micorRNA 487B is uniquely up regulated in the vessel wall of hypertensive rats, which downregulates a critical component of the insulin signaling cascade, IRS1. This discovery provides a missing link between insulin resistance and the development of hypertension.
